Step 1: Input the rate of Air Flow in CFM
CFM stands for cubic feet per minute and is a measure of the volume of air being moved by your AC’s compressor fan per minute. It is often given in the specifications section of your HVAC system brochure/manual/guide.
The best way to calculate CFM, if it is not given in the specifications, is by consulting an HVAC professional, who will do all the necessary calculations. This is an important measurement that ensures your HVAC system delivers the right amount of air to maintain a comfortable environment.
Step 2: Input the air velocity in FPM
FPM stands for feet per minute. It measures how fast the air is moving through your system. In other words, CFM measures the volume of air, and FPM measures the speed. An accurate FPM value is vital for efficient and noise-free air delivery.
You can take the help of an expert and his tools to accurately measure the required/current FPM in your home, or you may put your desired FPM to calculate the size of the ducts that you might need.
