What are your duties?
“I still have duties that are the same, like with being a comfort advisor. I go out in the field and help homeowners lower their energy bills with a new HVAC system. I am also in charge of my own team; right now I have three guys underneath me who I schedule and manage calls and things like that.”
What do you enjoy most about working in sales?
“I love getting to talk to new people everyday. I am a big people person so I enjoy going into new homes, talking to homeowners and enjoying being out during the day and not being stuck in the office all day.”
What makes The Chill Brothers different?
“Before I came to The Chill Brothers, I was a head basketball coach for 11 years. What makes it different is that they really care about your success; they are willing to train you at any time, regardless of how high they are in the company. That’s what makes The Chill Brothers different for any other companies that I have worked for. “
What have you learned from working with The Chill Brothers?
“A whole lot. Everything from the sales side to the management side. Going from coaching to HVAC was a big transition for me and I have been here for 10 months now and the knowledge I have gotten from my peers have been invaluable. A lot of knowledge on the sales side and HVAC systems like how they work, the parts and overall just a lot of HVAC knowledge.”
In your opinion, what skills are needed to work in sales?
“You have to be comfortable talking with strangers. You are going into their house and talking to them on their turf so you have to be comfortable around people. You also have to be knowledgeable about the product because you don’t want to go into their house and not know what to talk about. You are constantly studying, listening to podcasts and just trying to be a better leader.”
What advice do you have for anyone wanting to do sales?
“Study. There are a lot of good podcasts, books about sales. It is a whole different world. I would also recommend talking to someone in sales to see if it’s something you would be interested in. I didn’t start my career in sales but I really loved the transition and I am learning everyday, but I am a big believer in long-life learning.”
What are some of your goals?
“As far as work, I want to continue to grow in the company. When I got here, I always wanted to move up. As far as personal goals, I am in the process of building a new house, which this job has helped me do. I wanted to come work here because I wanted to spend more time with my son, who just turned one. I want to be there to watch him grow up and not be an absent father everyday working. I would also like to go on vacations with my wife overseas. We vacation a lot but we have never gone over to Europe or things like that. We also want to make sure our son gets a good education in the city of Houston. “
What is a free, in-home assessment?
“What we do; if it’s me who is doing your assessment, I will come to your house and look at your system to see if it qualifies for our buyback program. After that, I meet with the homeowners inside and discuss our deals and promotions and figure out how to upgrade their system to little to nothing out of pocket.”
How do you prepare for an in-home assessment?
“What I typically do is research. I go to HAR and look at the square footage and look at the ceilings of the house. Read a little bit of information about their current system that was passed to me. Basically just a little bit of homework so when I do go to the house I have an idea of what direction we are going in. Especially in HVAC where things can go many ways, I like to prepare for everything rather than coming in and shooting from the hip. “
How should a homeowner prepare for an in home assessment?
“It would be nice if they have their average monthly energy bills. That will help a lot. If they do not have the average, that’s fine. Just past energy bills; how high it gets in the Summer and how low they get in the Winter. It’s also good to have the homeowner and the spouse available. Things get lost in translation so it’s good to have everyone present to discuss the information. You know, I am married so I know how things can not be relayed as they should, so having both of them present will be good. Once I have all of that, I can take it from there.”
What is your favorite part about working with The Chill Brothers?
“My favorite part is whenever I was booking for a career change, I was in coaching for so long that I already had that comradery. I am also competitive so those things go hand in hand. Here, there is a competitiveness to the job which I love but the comradery is the same here as when I was a coach, like getting along with coworkers and leaders. It’s just a fun time to work here.”
